The Lowrance HDS PRO 12 is a 12-inch marine multifunction display combining chartplotting, GPS, sonar, networking and compatibility with Lowrance marine electronics. Its SolarMAX HD IPS touchscreen uses a 1280 x 800 resolution, while the integrated sonar platform supports CHIRP, Broadband, Active Imaging and compatible live-sonar systems.
For boat owners building a connected fishing or navigation helm, the HDS PRO 12 provides two Ethernet ports, NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity, dual microSD card slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI input and two sonar ports. The unit can also network with compatible radar, trolling motors, autopilot systems and marine audio equipment.
The HDS PRO 12 uses a 12-inch SolarMAX HD IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution and brightness above 1200 nits. The display supports multitouch operation and is paired with an 8-way directional keypad for physical control.
Lowrance specifies 80-degree viewing angles at the top, bottom, left and right. The combination of touchscreen and keypad control gives the operator more than one way to navigate menus, chart views, waypoints, sonar settings and connected-system functions.
The HDS PRO 12 integrates multiple sonar technologies, including CHIRP, Broadband, Active Imaging HD DownScan, Active Imaging HD SideScan, Active Imaging DownScan and Active Imaging SideScan.
The unit can provide independent dual 1 kW sonar capability depending on the connected transducer. Lowrance lists a maximum depth capability of up to 5,000 feet, with actual performance dependent on the transducer, water conditions and installation.
Active Imaging HD provides high-frequency DownScan and SideScan options for detailed views below and to the sides of the boat. The published HDS PRO specification lists 700 kHz CHIRP and 1200 kHz CHIRP DownScan frequencies, plus 455 kHz CHIRP and 1075 kHz CHIRP SideScan frequencies.
The exact imaging range and detail available on the water depend on the selected transducer and operating conditions. A compatible transducer is therefore an important part of planning an HDS PRO sonar installation.
The HDS PRO 12 is compatible with ActiveTarget and ActiveTarget 2 live sonar systems. It is also compatible with S3100, SonarHub, StructureScan, StructureScan HD, StructureScan 3D and LiveSight systems, with LiveSight requiring the PSI-1 module.
Live-sonar hardware is connected separately. Before purchasing a transducer or module, confirm the desired Lowrance sonar system and its compatibility with the HDS PRO 12.
The HDS PRO 12 includes 10 Hz GPS/GLONASS positioning with WAAS, EGNOS and MSAS support. A world basemap is included, while supported charting includes C-MAP REVEAL, C-MAP DISCOVER, C-MAP Genesis and compatible Navionics products.
The unit supports up to 3,000 waypoints, 100 routes and 100 trails with up to 10,000 points per trail. This provides substantial capacity for storing fishing locations, navigation points and recorded tracks.
The HDS PRO 12 can be integrated with compatible Lowrance HALO radar systems. The published specification identifies HALO 20, HALO 20+, HALO 24 dome radars and HALO 3-foot, 4-foot and 6-foot open-array pulse-compression radars.
Radar overlay and AIS functions are also supported as part of the multifunction platform. Exact radar capabilities depend on the connected radar and network configuration.
Two 100 Mbit Ethernet ports provide network connectivity between compatible marine displays and accessories. Lowrance specifies that up to six multifunction displays can be connected on a network.
This makes the HDS PRO 12 suitable for multi-display installations where charting, sonar and other marine information need to be shared between compatible units.
The HDS PRO 12 provides one NMEA 2000 port using a Micro-C connector and one NMEA 0183 connection through the power connector. These interfaces allow the display to communicate with compatible marine electronics and network devices.
NMEA connectivity can be used as part of installations involving supported autopilot, digital switching, AIS, instruments and other marine systems. Check the requirements of each connected device before installation.
The HDS PRO 12 supports compatible CZONE and Naviop digital switching systems. It also supports selected autopilot and trolling-motor products, including Outboard Pilot NAC-1 and NAC-2, Ghost and Recon trolling motors and compatible MotorGuide Xi5/Xi3 systems with the required gateway.
This allows the multifunction display to become part of a broader boat-control system rather than being limited to chart and sonar functions.
The HDS PRO 12 includes internal 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and compatibility with the WiFi-1 module. The current Lowrance specification identifies Bluetooth 4.0 with support for Bluetooth Classic, while the installation documentation for the HDS PRO family lists Bluetooth 5.2 for the hardware documentation. Because the published sources differ by documentation version, confirm the exact wireless specification of the unit being supplied if Bluetooth version is important to your installation.
The unit also includes one USB-A port with a 5 V DC output. Lowrance specifies up to 1.5 A output in its current online HDS PRO 12 specification.
One HDMI port is provided for external input and supports HDMI 1.4 sink and HDCP. The unit also has an analog video connection through the power cable, with an adapter cable sold separately according to the published specification.
These connections provide options for compatible external video sources and camera or display applications.
Two microSD SDXC card slots are provided, supporting cards up to 32GB according to the current Lowrance specification. Removable storage can be used for supported charting and system-data applications.
The HDS PRO 12 also includes 8GB of internal storage. Storage requirements vary with the chart, software and data being used.
The HDS PRO 12 supports SonicHub, SonicHub2, FusionLink products and NMEA 2000-compliant marine audio products. This allows compatible audio systems to be integrated into the multifunction display environment.
